Weekly Review 4/1-4/5

Congratulations to our 4th and 5th grade students who participated in the 2nd Annual All-Town Chorus this past Thursday night. Here is a video of former Memorial students at the middle school leading warm-ups along with some pictures:

There was a short BCAT feature of the concert:

Our fifth and fourth grade students have been busy writing compositions to go along with their assigned pages from a book. The fifth grade students are composing music to the story Where the Wild Things Are while the fourth grade students are composing music to The Adventures of Beekle. In a few weeks, we will be performing to a first or second grade class.

Third grade students learned two more new notes this week: high C and high D. These notes are on the red belt song. We also tried out a new interactive program called Recorder Ace. This program reinforces note reading and tone using familiar folk songs.

Our second grade students are starting to prepare for their Memorial Day concert on Friday, May 24th. Mark your calendars! We learned why Memorial Day is being observed and two patriotic songs; Grand Old Flag and Remember You.

First grade students learned a fun song and game called, "The Button and the Key." One student comes forward to the room and closes their eyes while the rest of the class sings the song. Another student is in charge of distributing the button and the key before the solo parts. Whoever has the button will sing, " I have the button" and whoever has the key will sing, "I have the key." The student in front of the room has to guess who had those items. It was exciting to see how each student guesses and sang their solo parts.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
