Weekly Review 4/24 - 4/28

Before we get to the Weekly Review, I'd like to welcome Mrs. Cline to the Memorial Music family!  Mrs. Niu had her gorgeous baby girl, Alysa, a few weeks ago so Mrs. Cline will be teaching music with me for the rest of the year.

This week, the first graders reinforced the steady beat with a fun song and game called "Sally Go 'Round the Sun."  The students walked around the room to the beat while singing, and there was a fun vibraslap part for the Music Superhero to play which signaled when the students must stop and freeze. The classes also learned about audiation.   Audiation is when you can hear music in your head, almost as if you turned on a radio in your brain!  They practiced audiating with a cute song called "Little Peter Rabbit" - complete with hand motions!

The second grade students have been preparing for their Memorial Day performance.  We worked a lot on "Grand Old Flag," adding in "We Want to Cheer," which is the partner song that goes along with it.  The students discovered that it is a bit tricky to stay confident on your part when you are also hearing a different part at the same time!  We also worked on our class song ("Yankee Doodle Boy" and "This Land is Your Land"), then learned a fun circle game called "Hop, Old Chipmunk."  We will finish playing the game next week!

The third graders are doing a wonderful job with their recorder music!  One of the songs for their June concert is called, "Rock Boom BAG!" - and next week we will be adding Boomwhackers!  It's sure to be a lot of fun! :)   In their centers, we played Haydn Seek, Musical Jenga, and learned more about the Star Spangled Banner in Composer Corner.

The fourth and fifth graders are so excited about their spring concert next week!  The performance will be Wednesday May 3rd, at 9:00 a.m. for teachers/students, and 7:00 p.m. for parents.  We hope to see you there!
